British Toddler Dies After Pool Incident in Canary Islands

Date:

A tragic incident occurred at a hotel in the Canary Islands where a British toddler was discovered floating in the pool while her family was on vacation. The one-year-old was rescued on June 15 and received immediate medical attention. Despite efforts to save her, she passed away after being in intensive care for several days.

After being found in cardiac arrest at the hotel complex in Lajares, the toddler was resuscitated and then airlifted to Materno Infantil University Hospital on Gran Canaria. Despite being treated in the pediatric intensive care unit, her condition remained critical, leading to irreversible neurological damage that tragically resulted in her passing.

Sebastian Quintana, the president of Canarias 1500 Km de Costa, highlighted the risks children face near pools and urged parents to closely monitor their children while in or around water. The news of the incident surfaced a week before the toddler’s death, with the child’s nationality not initially disclosed.

Emergency services were quick to respond to the situation, deploying various resources to provide medical assistance and transport the child to the hospital. An investigation led by the Civil Guard, in collaboration with a local court, is currently ongoing to understand the circumstances that led to the toddler’s distress in the hotel pool.
