“Zelensky Escalates Preemptive Strikes Deep Inside Russia”

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced an escalation of preemptive strikes on strategic facilities deep inside Russia to disrupt Vladimir Putin’s capacity to launch attacks.

In a forceful declaration regarding Kyiv’s deep-strike operations, Zelensky pledged that Ukrainian intelligence and special forces will ensure that the Russian population is aware of the ongoing conflict. This statement comes as the Kremlin intensifies pressure on Belarus to encourage its direct involvement in the war against Ukraine, initiating offensives from the north.

Zelensky’s warning preceded another long-range attack by Ukrainian special forces on a major fuel depot in the southern Krasnodar region. This recent strike, the second in less than two weeks, is part of a series of assaults aimed at undermining Putin’s military capabilities. Zelensky emphasized, “I have directed our intelligence services and armed forces to take preemptive action against the facilities used by Russia to escalate its military efforts.”

The President highlighted that the campaign is a response to Russia’s assaults on various Ukrainian regions such as Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk. He stressed, “The root cause of this war is Russian brutality and aggression. It is crucial for Russians to understand the existence of this war and its origin.” Following Ukraine’s attack, Russia retaliated with drone strikes on Zaporizhzhia.

According to the Institute for the Study of War based in the US, the Kremlin is exerting pressure on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to expand Belarus’ involvement in the conflict. Reports indicate that the Kremlin is pressuring Lukashenko to approve drone attacks from Belarus into Ukraine, aiming to divert Ukrainian military resources away from the eastern front.

The assessment from the Institute for the Study of War also suggests that Minsk is attempting to maintain Russian support for Belarus while preserving its sovereignty. Lukashenko has resisted allowing the Belarusian Armed Forces to assist Russian operations in Ukraine or recruit Belarusians into the Russian military at a large scale. He has refrained from adopting the Kremlin’s narrative portraying Ukraine as a threat to Belarus, maintaining a neutral stance towards Ukraine.

The ongoing efforts to pull Belarus into the conflict against Ukraine reflect the complex geopolitical dynamics in the region, with both Ukraine and Belarus navigating their relationships with Russia amidst escalating tensions.
