A school has honored Lilly Jones, a 14-year-old girl who is the focus of a murder inquiry following the discovery of a body earlier this week.
Lilly, recognized for her kindness and vibrant personality, was remembered by Brymawr Foundation School in Wales in a touching tribute today.
Initially reported missing from Blaina in Blaenau Gwent on Saturday, Lilly’s body was found near Duffryn Park during the search, according to reports from Wales Online.
Although formal identification is pending, Gwent Police have informed Lilly’s family. A 14-year-old boy detained on suspicion of murder is currently in police custody, as confirmed by a police spokesperson.
The school’s head teacher expressed deep sorrow over Lilly’s passing, stating that her absence will deeply impact those who knew her, emphasizing her significance within the school community.
Brynmawr School is closed today due to severe weather, but support services are available for affected students. The school conveyed condolences to Lilly’s family and assured assistance for students and staff in need.
The local community in Blaina has been shocked by the news, with tributes and flowers left near Duffryn Park in memory of Lilly, described as a beautiful and amazing friend.
Reverend Liane Chalmers of St Peter’s Church in Blaina extended an invitation to community members to light candles, leave messages, and seek comfort at the church, where a fundraiser for Lilly’s funeral and memorial has raised over £12,000.
Detective Chief Inspector Steven Thomas stated that inquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances of Lilly’s death, urging anyone with information to come forward and cautioning against online speculation to ensure a fair investigation.
Gwent Police has involved the Independent Office for Police Conduct in the matter, following standard protocol. The IOPC is assessing the referral from Gwent Police to determine further involvement.
