Eurostar passengers faced a challenging situation when their journey from Paris to Amsterdam was disrupted for over eight hours during a severe heatwave. The train, traveling from Gare du Nord in Paris to Amsterdam, came to a halt near Fresnoy-le-Luat (Oise) due to a technical fault caused by the high temperatures.
Stranded without power or air conditioning, travelers had to wait onboard the train or by the tracks until the issue was resolved. Frustrated passengers took to social media to express their discontent, with one individual questioning the situation, prompting Eurostar to acknowledge the technical incident resulting from the extreme heatwave conditions.
Describing the ordeal as “hell,” one passenger mentioned the presence of police, firefighters, and civil protection teams who provided assistance and distributed water to those in need. A replacement service eventually arrived at 12:30 am, allowing passengers to continue their journey to Brussels, which was originally scheduled for 7:47 pm on the previous day. Some passengers proceeded to Amsterdam via alternative transportation.
Eurostar’s Chief Operating Officer, Amar Chaabi, extended apologies to the affected passengers, emphasizing the prioritization of customer safety throughout the incident. He commended the collaborative efforts of involved teams and emergency services in ensuring passengers reached their destinations, pledging a thorough analysis of the incident to enhance customer service standards.
