England supporters have arrived in New York in anticipation of the upcoming World Cup showdown against Panama. It is estimated that tens of thousands of fans will be present in the city by Friday, with around 25,000 set to attend the match at a stadium in New Jersey, while others will be filling up FanFests and bars in the lively metropolis.
A group of fans have also secured tickets to witness Luke Littler and Luke Humphries compete in a darts tournament at Madison Square Garden before catching Thomas Tuchel’s team in action. Littler, a devoted Manchester United fan, and Humphries, a supporter of Leeds United, share a passion for major sporting events, having been spotted together at the Cheltenham races earlier this year.
Tuchel and his team are scheduled to fly from their base in Kansas City to New York on Friday. The weather forecast for the match day indicates a temperature of around 23C, which is relatively cool for the season.
Fans who attended the previous England game in Boston have traveled to New York using various modes of transportation, including planes, trains, cars, and buses. At key transportation hubs and popular venues like the “Football Factory” pub, located beneath the iconic Empire State Building, supporters have been gathering to catch other World Cup matches on TV.
Some fans, like Mark Trigg and his companions, have been on an extensive World Cup journey across America, with stops in Miami and Tampa for friendlies before arriving in New York. Despite travel challenges, these fans are determined to support England throughout the tournament, holding tickets for all knockout rounds.
As excitement builds for the upcoming match, England fans are eager to see their team secure a top spot in the group stage, potentially setting up clashes with Mexico and Brazil in the subsequent rounds. The venue, MetLife Stadium, known as the New York New Jersey Stadium for the World Cup, is expected to provide an electric atmosphere, accommodating up to 87,000 spectators.
Should England emerge victorious, they will secure their place at the top of the group, paving the way for a clear path to the final, which will be held at the same venue as the forthcoming match.
