“Farage Faces Criticism Over £270K Gold Endorsement”

Date:

Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, received an additional £270,000 for his endorsement of gold bullion, nearly three times his annual MP salary. This payment was disclosed in his recent update to the MPs’ register of financial interests. It is the largest single payment he has received for work outside his duties as the MP for Clacton, where he earns a salary of just over £98,000 per year.

Farage declared this payment from Direct Bullion for approximately four hours of work per month over a three-month period. In addition, he had previously disclosed payments of £91,200 and £135,000 from the same company. The latest register entry also shows that he earned £18,402 for about six hours of presenting on GB News.

The Mirror recently reported that Farage, despite portraying himself as a supporter of working-class people, owns multiple properties, including a grade-II listed property in Surrey and a seaside property purchased for £499,995 in 2020. There are ongoing questions regarding a £5 million gift he received from billionaire Christopher Harborne, with Parliament’s standards commissioner investigating whether the gift should have been declared.

Labour chair Anna Turley criticized Farage for prioritizing personal financial gains over his responsibilities as an MP. She emphasized that Farage should focus on benefiting his constituents rather than profiting from promoting gold sales. Farage defended the gift as a private matter and refused to disclose how he spent it, stating he was entitled to use it as he pleased.
