“Angela Rayner Urges Labour Boldness Against Reform UK”

Date:

Ex-Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has cautioned that the Labour Party cannot overcome Nigel Farage by being cautious and instead called for bold actions to confront Reform UK.

During a lecture at the New Economics Foundation (NEF) on Wednesday, Rayner emphasized the need for the Labour party to challenge the “rigged” system rather than making minor adjustments.

Rayner highlighted the risk of reinforcing right-wing populists’ narrative by not addressing the system’s flaws, stating that by defending the status quo, they inadvertently allow resentment to grow.

She pointed out the contradiction of those acknowledging the rigged system but siding with those who rigged it, citing Nigel Farage’s stance against new workers’ rights despite claiming to speak for them.

Rayner stressed the importance of boldness and courage in facing challenges, stating that the time calls for decisive action rather than caution.

Furthermore, Rayner expressed support for Andy Burnham’s vision to rewire the country, endorsing the idea of devolving more powers to mayors and local leaders for bottom-up growth.

She advocated for real devolution for regional leaders, rejecting the previous “begging-bowl culture” and calling for a shift towards empowering local communities and redistributing power and resources across the country.

In conclusion, Rayner praised Burnham’s vision of inclusive growth and community empowerment, emphasizing the importance of aligning economic policies with people, places, and the planet for a sustainable future.
