An upset restaurant owner is dealing with the aftermath of a frustrating incident where two customers left without paying their bill of £115 at an establishment in Penarth, south Wales.
The pair arrived in a luxurious car at El Puerto, located at the Old Custom House, around 8pm on June 29. After dining and having drinks, they departed without settling their tab, as captured on CCTV footage from the brasserie’s private car park.
The restaurant team has confirmed that the issue remains unresolved, sharing details of the customers’ receipt, which included items such as an all-day set menu, a Dover sole meal, calamari, and beverages.
Expressing disappointment, business owner Tanny Martinez highlighted the financial challenges already faced by the hospitality industry, emphasizing the negative impact of such incidents on businesses.
Martinez emphasized the dedication put into providing excellent customer experiences and expressed frustration at the lack of respect shown by the non-paying customers. He also acknowledged the community’s support and kindness following the incident.
A spokesperson for the restaurant’s marketing team revealed that the customers left swiftly once they noticed the staff were not attentive. Despite attempts to address the situation, the pair had already left the premises.
Following the incident, the restaurant posted a message on their Facebook page urging the customers to reach out for a resolution. Subsequently, the matter was reported to South Wales Police for further action.
South Wales Police confirmed receiving a theft report from The Custom House in Penarth on June 29, urging anyone with information to come forward and quote the provided reference number.
