A visitor in China defied the odds by surviving a harrowing ordeal after spending five hours stuck in a crevice halfway down a cliff. Ren Mou found herself lodged in the crevice, shouting for help, after falling 180ft down the Jiaozi Cliff in Shanxi Province while watching the sunrise alone. Wet conditions and poor visibility near the cliff edge caused her to slip and become trapped in a small rock crevice.
Fortunately, a man at the base of the cliff heard her cries for help and promptly alerted authorities on Thursday, July 2. Utilizing drones with infrared imaging technology, rescue teams were able to pinpoint her exact location. Ropes were secured to surrounding trees for the rescue operation as the cliff lacked suitable anchor points. Despite enduring five hours in the precarious position, Ren was successfully brought to safety.
Following the incident, Ren was found disoriented, physically exhausted, and with multiple non-life-threatening injuries. She is currently receiving treatment in the hospital. The Captain of the Shanxi Blue Sky Rescue Team noted that this was the first time in his 16 years of service encountering such a challenging rescue mission.
In light of this incident and a separate tourist falling 130ft off a cliff at Huaying Mountain in Guang’an, China, visitors have been cautioned to avoid lingering near cliff edges, especially during nighttime and on slippery terrain. It is crucial for visitors to heed safety warnings and exercise caution in such environments.
