A heatwave in the UK is expected to reach its peak today with temperatures soaring to 36C, while some parts of the country may see a significant drop to as low as 4C in the coming days. This marks the third major heatwave of the year for Brits, prompting heat health alerts in various regions of England. Although official weather warnings have not been issued by the Met Office yet, individuals are advised to stay well-hydrated due to the potentially severe health risks associated with the heat.
The heatwave is set to persist into the following week, especially affecting southern areas where temperatures are forecasted to remain in the 30s. However, relief from the scorching conditions is on the horizon as weather models now predict a significant cool down.
According to the GFS weather model, on July 19, some areas in Scotland could wake up to as low as 4C, with most regions across the UK experiencing temperatures below 10C by 6am. By midday, temperatures are expected to reach only 14C in eastern England, with a range of 10C to 12C across the country, a stark contrast to the recent days of 30C heat.
Similar weather patterns are anticipated for the next day, with southern regions projected to see highs of only 15C around midday on July 12. Temperature anomaly maps indicate that the UK will experience unusually cool temperatures during this period, with many areas expected to dip into single digits on the morning of July 19.
The latest forecast from the Met Office suggests peak temperatures of 36C in southern regions and 34C in the north for today, followed by slightly lower temperatures tomorrow. Thunderstorms are also a possibility later today. Scotland may experience showery rain in the north, potentially heavy and thundery, with isolated thunderstorms in other areas.
Overnight, any isolated thunderstorms are expected to ease, with Scotland remaining mostly cloudy with some rain. The rest of the UK should stay dry and clear, with warm conditions persisting. Saturday’s forecast includes clouds and showery rain in Scotland, while the rest of the country can expect sunshine, though there may be low cloudiness along eastern coasts of England. Breezy conditions are predicted, with hotter temperatures in the west and cooler temperatures in the east.
