A fresh plea has been made regarding the case of a young mother who was killed following a David Bowie concert at Slane Castle almost four decades ago.
Antoinette Smith vanished after attending the concert in Co Meath on July 11, 1987, along with a friend. The body of the 27-year-old mother of two was discovered nine months later in a ditch on Glendoo Mountain in Co Wicklow.
Following the concert, they traveled back to Dublin by bus, reaching Parnell Square around 11pm, and later went to the nearby La Mirage Discotheque, where they encountered two familiar men.
They stayed with the men until leaving the club shortly after 2am. Subsequently, Ms. Smith’s friend departed from the group, while Ms. Smith and the two men stayed for a while before walking to a taxi stand on O’Connell Street.
The men took a taxi to the Ballymun area, while Ms. Smith continued walking towards O’Connell Street Bridge. Her husband reported her missing thereafter.
Ms. Smith’s daughters Lisa and Rachel were seven and four years old respectively when she disappeared. Gardaí at Bray Garda Station have used the anniversary to renew their call for public assistance in the case.
They urge anyone with information to step forward, emphasizing that connections and acquaintances from years ago may have evolved. Gardaí assure that they will handle anyone aiding the investigation with sensitivity.
