President Donald Trump has informed Congress that the United States has once again entered into conflict with Iran and initiated fresh military operations in the region.
A new series of attacks is underway, occurring shortly after Trump terminated the peace deal ceasefire, which was intended to allow both sides a year to engage in negotiations for a lasting peace.
In an interview with CNN, the President stated, “We’re targeting Pickaxe Mountain. Alert the Iranians of our impending action.”
Additionally, Trump asserted that the Strait of Hormuz will remain accessible, with or without Iran, through the imposition of a blockade on Iranian vessels or their clients. He announced a 20% charge on all cargo shipments to cover expenses related to ensuring safety and security in this unstable region.
This ongoing development underscores the official communication to Congress that the US is once again in conflict with Iran, granting the President authority to orchestrate military operations in the Middle East for a span of 60 days without requiring Congressional approval.
While the US has not declared a formal state of war against Iran, as per the constitution, only Congress holds that power. Hence, this notification enables Trump to execute military actions without a formal declaration of war.
Reports indicate that missile sirens have been activated in Bahrain, a region previously targeted in airstrikes during the Iran War. Military activities recommenced on February 28 and have reignited hostilities following the signing of a ceasefire deal in late June.
Officials from the UAE have confirmed one fatality and eight injuries following a US assault on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the UAE government expressed condemnation, labeling the attack as a violation of international law, posing a threat to the region’s security and stability.
