A young child, Omra Wali Jan, tragically passed away after enduring severe abuse from her parents, leading to fatal brain injuries. The toddler, just two years old, suffered beatings, burns, and bites over several weeks in 2023, culminating in a final assault in November that left her hospitalized.
Following the removal of life support on February 9, 2024, with High Court authorization, her parents, Morsal Mohammed Naim and Firooz Wali Jan, were sentenced to prison for their acts of cruelty. While the exact details of the abuse remain unclear, both parents confessed to child cruelty, with Naim admitting to manslaughter instead of murder during the trial.
Naim received a nine-year prison term, and Wali Jan was sentenced to six years and nine months after a hearing at Manchester Crown Court. The judge highlighted the couple’s sadistic actions and numerous instances of severe mistreatment towards the toddler.
Despite the lack of specific disclosures from the parents regarding the abuse inflicted on Omra, evidence from Naim’s phone showed burn injuries, bruising, and other harm to the child. The events leading to Omra’s tragic death unfolded when Naim was alone with the child, falsely claiming to a neighbor that Omra had choked on a biscuit.
Medical examinations revealed extensive brain injuries, ultimately leading to the decision to remove life support. The court emphasized that the injuries were intentionally inflicted within the family home, causing immense pain and suffering to the child.
The investigating officer expressed profound sorrow over Omra’s distressing ordeal and commended the collective efforts that led to justice. The prosecution condemned Naim’s actions as unimaginably cruel, highlighting the tragedy of Omra’s untimely death and the profound impact on all involved.
