Iran launched a barrage of missiles towards Israel shortly after Donald Trump reported positive talks with the country to address the ongoing Middle East conflict. Air raid sirens blared across Israel, including Tel Aviv, this morning as Iran fired a series of missiles, causing six individuals to sustain minor injuries according to Israeli police. One missile, carrying approximately 100 kilograms of explosives, hit Tel Aviv, resulting in significant damage to structures and vehicles. Following an interception, homes in northern Israel were damaged by falling debris.
These attacks occurred a day after Trump announced the postponement of military strikes against Iran’s power plants following what he described as fruitful discussions aimed at resolving hostilities in the region. Trump had previously issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, demanding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, failing which the US would target and destroy Iranian power facilities.
In response, Iran issued its own threats, warning of retaliation in four ways if Trump proceeded with his plans. Disputing Trump’s claims of peace talks, an account linked to Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf stated that no negotiations had occurred with the US. It accused the dissemination of “fake news” to manipulate oil markets and emphasized the Iranian people’s demand for severe punishment of aggressors.
