“Amazon Recall: Junpower Batteries Pose Child Safety Risk”

Date:

Amazon customers in the United States are advised by regulators to inspect any batteries in their possession if they have young children at home. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) has issued a recall for coin batteries sold on Amazon under the brand name ‘JUNPOWER Household Batteries’. Specifically, the Junpower CR2032 20-pack batteries in packaging model 2023-V3 are being recalled due to incorrect packaging.

The product, consisting of four packs with five batteries each, was sold between December 2023 and September 2024 for approximately $8 to $9. The packaging error could lead to children opening the packets and accidentally swallowing a battery, posing a serious risk of injury or fatality.

On July 2, the USCPSC released a notice stating, “Consumers should discontinue use of the recalled coin batteries immediately, store them in an inaccessible area, and reach out to Junpower for a complimentary replacement battery. Consumers are encouraged to visit Junpower’s recall page, follow the provided instructions, and mark the product clearly with the date, initials, and the term ‘Recalled’ for identification. A photo of the marked product must be submitted, and the old batteries should be disposed of properly to receive a replacement.”

As of now, there have been no reported injuries associated with these batteries. Approximately 67,000 units were sold online before the recall was initiated.
