UK’s Third Heatwave of 2026 Ends, Cooler Days Ahead

Date:

After experiencing three scorching spells this year, the UK is set to see a decline in temperatures as the third heatwave of 2026 concludes. These prolonged hot periods have led to record-breaking temperatures, contributing to an increase in fires and health issues. However, relief is on the horizon as forecasters predict a cooling trend in the coming days.

According to the latest weather forecast from the Met Office, meteorologist Aidan McGivern anticipates a shift in high pressure, resulting in a decrease in peak temperatures by the weekend. McGivern explained that while temperatures will still be above average, they are expected to gradually decrease, with mid to high-20s temperatures forecasted for Saturday and Sunday.

The Met Office’s morning forecast indicates highs of 29C in southern regions on Saturday, dropping to 24C in the north. By Sunday, peak temperatures are expected to reach 25C in the south and 22C in the north. BBC weather forecasters also foresee a cooling trend towards the end of the week, with a possibility of rain in some areas.

The BBC’s weather forecast highlights a decrease in warmth on Friday, with varying cloud coverage in the north and sunny conditions elsewhere. Saturday is expected to bring more cloud cover, especially in northern and eastern areas, with a chance of light rain along the North Sea coast. Sunday is predicted to be mostly dry with variable cloudiness and a potential for isolated showers in western England.
