Three individuals tragically fell to their deaths from a 213-foot tall popular tourist spot in Germany. The incident occurred at the Harz Tower in Altenau, located in the Goslar district of Lower Saxony, at approximately 4:45 pm today. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the victims could not be saved.
Authorities have cordoned off the area surrounding the tower, and privacy screens have been put in place as the investigation into the accident continues. The operator of the tower, Harzturm GmbH, has not issued a statement regarding the incident but has announced on its website that the tower will remain closed throughout July 17, 2026.
Situated in Torfhaus, the highest village in the Harz Mountains of Germany, the renowned observation tower stands as the tallest of its kind in the country since its public opening in 2024. Constructed using a combination of wood and steel, the tower cost around €10 million to build, with financial support from the state. Noteworthy features include a glass-floored skywalk situated at a height of approximately 45 meters.
Visitors can access the tower’s top via stairs or a lift, and a notable attraction is the 110-meter slide available for thrill-seekers.
