A teenage student has been cleared of attempted murder charges following an incident where he stabbed a teacher in the head. The 16-year-old, whose identity remains protected, was convicted of intentionally causing harm to Vicki Williams at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Pembrokeshire back in February.
During the trial at Swansea Crown Court, it was revealed that the student, aged 15 at the time, stabbed the history teacher while she was inspecting his schoolwork. The court heard the pupil accidentally injured Mrs. Williams during a struggle after she noticed the knife in his possession.
The jury recently found the student guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent but acquitted him of the attempted murder charge. Testimony indicated that the student approached Mrs. Williams for help with his work before the violent incident occurred in the classroom.
Following the altercation, Mrs. Williams received medical treatment for a scalp wound, back scratches, and minor hand cuts. The defense argued that the student may have brought the kitchen knife to school to impress his peers rather than to harm the teacher.
Despite the guilty verdict, the defense emphasized that there was no prior conflict between the student and Mrs. Williams. The prosecution contended that the student had premeditated the attack on the teacher, targeting her because she was a vulnerable lone female at the time.
Mrs. Williams, recalling the incident, expressed her belief that she was facing death during the assault. The jury reached a decision to convict the student of causing harm with intent after a brief deliberation.
The sentencing for the student is scheduled for September 3 at Swansea Crown Court.
