A mother in Australia has given birth to an exceptionally rare set of identical quadruplets. Jenitar and her husband, Jortham Na-amoana, joyfully welcomed four baby girls – Emily, Harriet, Alexa, and Catherine at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
These quadruplets, conceived naturally, are monozygotic, meaning they originated from a single fertilized egg that divided into four embryos. The babies were delivered via caesarean section at 28 weeks and four days on July 14, defying odds estimated at about one in 15 million for conceiving quadruplets naturally.
Already parents to four children aged between 10 and one, the couple now finds themselves caring for a total of eight kids. Dr. Alexa Bendall, who assisted during the pregnancy and after whom one of the babies was named, praised Jenitar’s exceptional handling of the pregnancy, considering the high risks involved.
The incredible news of the quadruplets left Jenitar and Jortham astounded, prompting the establishment of a GoFundMe page to support the financial needs of raising four additional children. The couple expressed gratitude and sought help for essentials like a larger vehicle, baby equipment, and ongoing expenses.
The quadruplets will remain in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit until they reach full term, with Dr. Bendall emphasizing the rarity and challenges associated with the birth of monozygotic quadruplets. The family’s journey, marked by extraordinary circumstances, has garnered support from well-wishers, and they remain thankful for any assistance, whether in donations, prayers, or sharing their story.
