Tragically, a 35-year-old former finalist in the Miss Universe Jamaica competition has recently passed away.
The Miss Universe Jamaica organization confirmed the passing of actress and dancer LaToya Malcolm in a social media tribute posted on Saturday.
The specific reason for her death was not disclosed.
Expressing deep sorrow, the organization stated, “We are profoundly saddened by the loss of Miss Universe Jamaica alumna LaToya Malcolm.”
They further emphasized that her memory would endure and she would always be remembered.
LaToya participated in the 2024 edition of the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant, where she stood out as one of the competitors.
During the event, she was mourning the loss of her father. Subsequently, LaToya claimed the Miss Jamaica Bikini International title and dedicated her victory to her father in a touching tribute.
Apart from her involvement in pageantry, LaToya was recognized as an actress and dance instructor.
Additionally, she was actively engaged in the Transition Project, a program aimed at assisting disadvantaged teenagers in their transition to adulthood.
Among those honoring her memory was the current Miss Universe Jamaica titleholder, Gabrielle Henry, who described LaToya’s passing as a significant loss, affirming that her influence and voice would endure in memory.
