A woman was attacked with a knife inside a church in Ireland just before the morning Mass commenced.
The incident occurred at Holy Cross Church in Summerhill, Tramore, County Waterford, around 9:45 am today. The victim, a woman in her 50s, sustained a single knife wound while praying at the altar and was quickly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Law enforcement, including specialized armed gardaí from the Armed Support Unit, and medical personnel responded promptly to the scene. Authorities have confirmed that the victim sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries.
According to local parishioner Ann O’Connor, who was present during the attack, the situation was described as terrifying. She recounted that the victim, who was kneeling nearby, was suddenly attacked with a knife, causing chaos in the church.
Ms. O’Connor characterized the victim as a kind and gentle individual.
