“F-35B Military Aircraft Crashes Near California Air Base”

Date:

An F-35B military aircraft crashed near a California air base, leading to the pilot being swiftly taken to a medical facility in what the US Marines have labeled a “Class A mishap.” The incident occurred on Friday afternoon close to the Miramar Air Base in San Diego.

Describing the event as a “Class A mishap,” the US Marines categorize it as the most severe type, indicating damages exceeding $2 million, destruction of a military aircraft, or loss of a service member’s life. The pilot successfully ejected, was rescued, and transported to a medical facility for evaluation, according to official statements.

A spokesperson confirmed the Class A mishap involving a Marine Corps F-35B in the vicinity of MCAS Miramar and assured that more details would be provided soon. Aerial footage captured smoke rising from the wreckage in a dirt field, surrounded by military and firefighting vehicles, with individuals present at the scene.

Firefighters from San Diego Fire responded to a vegetation fire ignited near the crash site, as mentioned by Candace Hadley, a fire department representative, who directed further inquiries to Miramar officials. The F-35B, a sophisticated stealth fighter jet utilized by the Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force, is known for its vertical landing capabilities and an engine optimized for short take-offs.
