“Thunderstorms to Break UK Heatwave”

Date:

Vivid weather maps indicate the impending arrival of thunderstorms that will abruptly end weeks of scorching sunshine.

A temporary reprieve from the dry summer is expected this week as rain showers are forecasted to bring relief to various parts of the UK. Numerous regions experienced minimal rainfall in July, with more than half of England and the entirety of Wales officially declared to be in a state of drought.

Multiple heatwaves have struck the UK in 2026, resulting in devastating wildfires in various areas including Suffolk, the New Forest, Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and Dorset. However, a significant amount of rainfall may be on the horizon as weather experts at Ventusky highlight the regions where weather conditions are set to change. This data is sourced from meteorologists at Metdesk.

On Tuesday, a low-pressure system will spread across the UK from the southwest, bringing potentially heavy rainfall to parts of the north while the south is expected to experience showers.

This weather system will usher in warmer and more humid conditions over England and Wales, with temperatures likely to exceed 30C in some areas once again. Thunderstorms are anticipated in certain regions, with Northern Ireland, Cumbria, the Northeast of England, and parts of Scotland expected to encounter thunder and heavy showers due to the prevailing low-pressure area.

By 7am, the rain is predicted to move towards north Wales, accompanied by storms in parts of the Northwest of England. The morning will start off wet in sections of the Midlands, extending as far south as Devon and Hampshire.

The weather maps at 10am suggest that thunderstorms could affect parts of Cumbria and Scotland while rainfall is expected to move over eastern England, encompassing areas in Berkshire and Birmingham. By 4pm, the storms may reappear over the Irish Sea, with Belfast potentially being hit by stormy weather.

At present, there are no official weather warnings in place for rain or thunderstorms.

Chris Bulmer, the Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, stated, “A shift in weather patterns early next week will reintroduce warmer conditions across England and Wales. However, unlike much of the summer, this change will be accompanied by showers or possibly thunderstorms in certain areas.

“While some southern regions may only experience light rainfall, northern areas could see heavy rain accumulation, particularly over parts of Scotland.”

The UK Health Security Agency has issued heat alerts for several regions starting from Sunday, August 2, until Wednesday, August 5, at 9am.

The UK has been enduring soaring temperatures both day and night, with extreme heat gripping the nation. This summer has witnessed record-breaking temperatures and three separate heatwaves.

However, weather maps for August 10 indicate extensive blue areas
