A man identified as Sharif Ahmadzai, a boxer, has been captured in photos for the first time in connection to the death of Elisabeth Jane Ross, a British woman whose body was found in a suitcase in Athens. Ahmadzai, aged 26, is under investigation by the police for allegedly using the victim’s bank card to withdraw funds and sending messages from her phone to deceive her relatives.
Elisabeth’s body was discovered by a homeless individual inside an abandoned building in the Kypseli district of Athens. Ahmadzai, who had won a super lightweight boxing title in Greece earlier, is shown in a released image holding a belt from the Professional Boxing Federation of Greece.
Originally from Afghanistan, Ahmadzai arrived in Lesvos, Greece, in 2016 and later married an American woman named Alaina Hall. The couple, along with Elisabeth, reportedly ran a charity in Athens aimed at assisting homeless individuals and refugees.
Following Elisabeth’s death, suspicions arose about Ahmadzai’s actions, with reports indicating that his wife raised concerns with the authorities. She mentioned that Ahmadzai went missing on a specific evening and was allegedly tracked to Elisabeth’s residence, which the couple had access to.
When searched by the police, Ahmadzai’s residence revealed a replica pistol and a military-style knife. Ahmadzai claimed that he found Elisabeth already deceased and only moved her body into a suitcase to take her money discreetly.
Ahmadzai has been arrested and charged with intentional homicide, robbery, and weapon-related offenses. The Hellenic Police mentioned cooperation with authorities from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Scotland in the investigation.
