A massive search effort is currently in progress following the disappearance of a 13-year-old boy while swimming along the East Yorkshire coast. The incident occurred in Hornsea around 6pm yesterday, prompting emergency services to respond to reports of the boy encountering difficulties in the water.
The search involves various emergency teams, including Hornsea Inshore Rescue, HM Coastguard, and Humberside Police, with the RNLI’s Bridlington all-weather lifeboat also deployed. Chief Superintendent Phil Booker emphasized the importance of locating the missing boy, mentioning the involvement of Police Search Advisors, the Marine Unit, and drone pilots in the extensive search and rescue operation.
In response to the incident, The Mirror’s “Save Lives For Sam” water safety campaign has been initiated to address water-related crises in the UK. Chief Superintendent Phil Booker urged the public to avoid speculating about the situation and allow emergency services to work effectively.
Tragically, a 14-year-old boy drowned in east London the day before the current incident. The Metropolitan Police reported that the boy had entered the Millwall Outer Dock and was later found deceased. The warm weather has drawn many to beaches amidst the ongoing heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 30C in parts of the country.
Notably, there have been nine fatalities, including children, in water-related incidents since the start of the summer holidays in the UK. Authorities continue to stress the importance of water safety, especially during the hot weather conditions.
