A 16-year-old girl tragically passed away after collapsing during a football final in Ireland. Aoibheann Clarke was receiving CPR on the field during the Girls Minor Division 6 Shield Gaelic football final in Taghmon. Despite efforts to save her, she died shortly after being taken to the hospital.
Witnesses reported that the attention of spectators was initially on a clash between players during extra time before realizing the girl’s critical condition. Several individuals rushed to assist, and Aoibheann regained breath after receiving chest compressions.
Her father, who was acting as a linesman at the game, was present during the incident. Various emergency response teams, including paramedics, police, fire crews, and an air ambulance, were swiftly on the scene.
The match was abandoned, and her teammates stayed at the club awaiting updates, only to receive the devastating news of her passing. Aoibheann, described as a talented footballer, had no known underlying health issues.
In a statement, Taghmon Camross club expressed gratitude to everyone who responded promptly and compassionately during the emergency. They extended sympathy to Aoibheann’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved her, requesting privacy for the grieving family.
Before her untimely death, Aoibheann had contributed to Wexford FC’s victory in the Football Association of Ireland’s Women’s U19 Inter-League title. Tributes poured in from various sports clubs and organizations, honoring her memory and expressing condolences to her loved ones.
