A recent incident saw a new mother sustaining serious stab wounds during a violent machete attack allegedly carried out by her brother, who was reported to have shouted, “why aren’t you dead yet?” The attack left the woman with a four-inch gash on her right hand, nearly severing multiple fingers. The perpetrator, Ruben Altidore, aged 36, was apprehended on the same day in Margate, located approximately 40 miles north of Miami, Florida. He faced charges of attempted felony murder, aggravated child abuse, and a probation violation in court the following day.
According to information from an arrest report obtained by Florida news outlet WPLG, Altidore was heard yelling during the brutal assault. The victim managed to escape to a neighbor’s house for help, where she was found by Luis Pereria. A doorbell camera recording captured the victim ringing the neighbor’s doorbell before collapsing on the ground.
Despite the mother sustaining severe injuries, her one-year-old child was unharmed but covered in blood. Police investigations revealed blood inside the residence and on a machete sheath, though the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Altidore is currently held at Broward County Main Jail as legal proceedings progress.
