Major rail disruptions have been reported in the Greater Manchester area, the Midlands, and the North West of England, according to National Rail. This situation arose due to an electrical failure at a communications center, resulting in train cancellations, delays of up to an hour, and rescheduling.
Various train services including Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway, Northern, TransPennine Express, and Transport for Wales are experiencing impacts from this incident. National Rail anticipates that the disruption will persist until the end of the day.
East Midlands Railway has issued travel advice stating that Macclesfield is currently not being served due to the ongoing disruption. Passengers with canceled services are advised to utilize one of the two available Avanti West Coast services before or after their scheduled train.
During this disruption, off-peak ticket restrictions have been relaxed. Customers who decide not to travel due to delays or cancellations can request a full refund from the ticket retailer. Northern and TransPennine Express have recommended customers not to travel.
For Northern customers, ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas for the disruption period, including Advance and Peak restrictions. TransPennine Express customers can use their tickets at no additional cost in both directions on specified services.
National Rail has identified several rail companies impacted by the disruption. A notice on National Rail’s website advises passengers to check their entire journey for possible disruptions as other train operators may also be affected.
