According to ESPN’s article released on Monday, three sources indicated that the NBA did not uncover any proof of Ballmer using team sponsors to compensate Kawhi Leonard in a way that evades the salary cap.
The report suggested that the NBA is investigating whether the team’s presentation of Leonard to sponsors breaches the league’s regulations against circumventing the salary cap. NBA spokesperson Mike Bass refuted the claims in the ESPN article, stating that it contains numerous inaccuracies. Bass mentioned that the findings of the NBA’s inquiry will be disclosed upon its conclusion.
A potential trade between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Toronto Raptors, which includes Leonard, has been postponed pending the league’s decision on potential penalties.
