Canada’s Marco Arop clinched the fourth position on Friday at the Diamond League track and field event in Lausanne, Switzerland, which took place at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise. Arop started the race strongly, leading the pack into the final lap but struggled to maintain the pace, ultimately finishing fourth with a time of 1:43.18.
The victory went to Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi, clocking in at 1:42.19, followed by Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati with a season-best time of 1:42.31. American Brandon Miller secured the third spot with a time of 1:42.55.
In the previous year, Marco Arop and shot putter Sarah Mitton were the sole Canadians to qualify for the Diamond League Final in Zurich, where they both secured third place finishes.
Heading into the race, Arop held the second position in the men’s 800m Diamond League standings, trailing behind Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi. Although Arop had not yet confirmed his place in the Final, his standing in the rankings positioned him well for qualification.
The 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final is scheduled to be held on September 4–5 in Brussels, Belgium.
In the men’s 200m race, reigning Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana triumphed with a time of 19.87 seconds. South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile claimed second place in 19.98 seconds, while Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba secured third place with a time of 20.14 seconds.
On the women’s side, American Kayla White emerged victorious in the 200m event, finishing in 22.18 seconds. The battle for second and third place was intense, with Great Britain’s Amy Hunt narrowly beating Nigeria’s Favour Ofili, both crossing the line in 22.32 seconds. Unfortunately, Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, a two-time women’s world champion, sustained an injury during the race and had to be escorted off the track in a wheelchair.
