An international team of researchers has recently uncovered the secret behind this straight growth pattern, attributing it to the tusk’s distinct structure of opposing spirals. This revelation emerged from a collaborative effort involving scientists from various fields, including organic chemistry, biology, and physics.
The study, published in Nature Communications, delves into the intricate details of the narwhal tusk’s spirals, revealing a fascinating interplay between left and right-handed spirals.
