“Accidents Cause M62 Closures, Traffic Delays Ease”

An accident caused the closure of a section of a busy motorway earlier today.

The M62 in East Riding of Yorkshire had to be shut down eastbound between Junction 34 (Selby) and Junction 35 (M18) due to a crash involving two vehicles. The road was reopened at approximately 9 am, several hours after the incident occurred around 4.15 am.

Additionally, a lane closure was enforced eastbound between Junction 26 (Chain Bar) and Junction 27 (Gildersome) following another collision, leading to traffic congestion. However, the delays have now subsided.

The M62 eastbound stretch between junctions 34 and 35 was accessible again by 9 am.

National Highways Yorkshire announced the reopening of the M62 eastbound between J34 #Selby and J35 (#M18) after the earlier collision and clearance of vehicles. Traffic disruptions have now eased.

Inrix, a traffic monitoring site, reported a decrease in delays following the incident between junctions 26 and 27 on the M62 eastbound. It stated, “Traffic flow has improved following the earlier accident on M62 Eastbound from J26 M606 J1 (Chain Bar) to J27 M621 (Gildersome). Previous congestion to J24 A629 (Ainley Top).”

According to National Highways, delays of up to 20 minutes were experienced near junctions 34 and 35 post the collision.

The response to the incident is being led by Humberside Police, with support from traffic officers, contractors, and recovery teams for road clearance.

The eastbound section of the M62 in East Riding of Yorkshire remains closed between junctions 34 and 35.

A representative from National Highways advised travelers impacted by the closure to allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes or delaying their journeys.
