Adam Ramsay-Peaty clinched a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke semi-finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games while Sam Williamson emerged victorious.
Facing a tough challenge from the start, the British athlete made a late push but fell short of securing another top spot. He completed the race in 26.94 seconds, trailing the Australian winner by 0.44 seconds, who achieved an impressive double victory in Glasgow following his success in the 100m event.
Despite finishing just 0.01 seconds behind the second-place Michael Houlie, Ramsay-Peaty settled for third. The defending champion, who had previously won gold in Birmingham four years ago, energized the crowd during his entrance but couldn’t muster enough to claim victory.
Having qualified for the final with a time of 26.82 seconds, Ramsay-Peaty finished second in his semi-final behind South Africa’s Houlie.
This performance followed the Olympian’s bronze win in the 100m breaststroke final over the weekend, despite entering as the fastest qualifier.
In the same event, he was outpaced by Williamson and Filip Nowacki from Jersey. Ramsay-Peaty’s time of 59.65 seconds was slower than his semi-final time by over four-tenths of a second and three seconds off his personal best set seven years ago.
Expressing mixed emotions post-event, Ramsay-Peaty’s remarks about feeling deserving of more recognition sparked debate. He emphasized the challenges of returning to the sport and the conflicting feelings between being content with what one achieves and striving for more.
Stressing his disappointment, Ramsay-Peaty stated, “I believe I merit better outcomes. While I understand that success in sports is about the performance on the day, I am confident in my abilities as an athlete. The result is very disheartening.”
