Tragic Beach Incident Claims Mother and Daughter

Date:

A mother and daughter tragically lost their lives in a devastating incident at Mersea beach, where they were swept away by a powerful tide, according to a family member. Shelina Rahman, a 41-year-old teacher, and her 15-year-old daughter Sameeha perished while trying to rescue Sameeha’s seven-year-old cousin, Musa Rahman. Musa is currently in critical condition in the hospital. The family was just about to leave the beach when the tragedy unfolded.

Since May 24, around 40 individuals have drowned in open waters across the UK, coinciding with multiple heatwaves. The Mirror’s Save Lives for Sam campaign urges the government to take immediate action in light of these distressing events.

Reports suggest that Shelina and Sameeha were overcome by a particularly strong tide. Mersea Island’s unique location makes it challenging to access due to the changing tides, with the only road in and out of the island becoming submerged twice a day, leaving some visitors stranded for hours.

Shahin Ahmed, the father of Musa, recounted the harrowing experience where he, along with 11 other family members, was at the beach during the incident. Upon noticing the distress, Mr. Ahmed rushed into the water to save his loved ones. Bystanders, including Craig Bowe, assisted in bringing the family ashore. Mr. Bowe’s wife Carly tried to resuscitate Shelina and Sameeha.

Dr. Mansur Rahman, the husband of Shelina and father of Sameeha, expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss during a heartfelt speech surrounded by family members. He thanked the community for their support and prayers during this challenging time.
