Indonesian authorities have postponed the deportation of British criminal figure Steven Lyons to Spain. Originally set to be extradited via Qatar Airways on Wednesday, the 45-year-old will now be deported on Thursday, as confirmed by Husnan Handano, a spokesperson for Bali’s immigration office. The reason for the delay was not disclosed.
Lyons, described as a “suspected leader of an international criminal organization” by the Bali Immigration Office, was apprehended in Indonesia following an Interpol Red Notice. This arrest came shortly after he was deported from Qatar. The crime lord is believed to have orchestrated activities involving fictitious companies and money laundering through his network, according to the Daily Record.
Following a joint police operation in Spain and Scotland resulting in 13 arrests linked to organized crime, including Lyons, the authorities are collaborating across Europe. Lyons’ wife, Amanda, was also arrested in Dubai at their luxury apartment. The arrests stem from a two-year investigation into a drug trafficking network, leading to multiple arrests in Scotland and Spain.
Eight men were arrested in various locations in Scotland, facing charges related to organized crime, while Spanish authorities conducted raids that led to five additional arrests in Malaga and Barcelona. Europol reported the seizure of a £600,000 villa and two plots of land in Turkey as part of the operation.
Lyons, known as SL, was seen in photos released by the immigration office being escorted through Bali Airport by law enforcement. The images show him visibly distressed, wearing a black t-shirt and green shorts, with officials surrounding him. Lyons had been residing in Dubai since fleeing Scotland in 2006 due to a violent feud with a rival crime clan.
After being expelled from the UAE last year, Lyons’ deportation to Spain has been delayed, marking a new chapter in the ongoing investigation into his alleged criminal activities.
