Two individuals sustained injuries in a knife-related altercation on a street in Solingen, a city in northwestern Germany. Following the incident on Wednesday afternoon, a significant police operation was initiated in the city center. The German newspaper Bild reported that heavily armed officers were dispatched to the scene, where a bloodied knife was observed on the ground within a police cordon.
According to police spokesperson Alexander Kresta, the altercation involving two men and a knife was reported around 4:51 pm. While the motive behind the dispute remains unclear, authorities believe the individuals were acquainted with each other. A 48-year-old man suffered multiple stab wounds to the upper body, with a 52-year-old man intervening and sustaining serious injuries in the process, as stated by prosecutor Patrick Penders from the Wuppertal public prosecutor’s office.
Coincidentally, a unit of riot police was conducting an active shooter training exercise nearby when the altercation occurred. Upon arrival at the scene, officers managed to subdue the alleged 46-year-old attacker, who was subsequently arrested. The injured men were promptly transported to a hospital for treatment.
Local newspaper Solinger Tageblatt reported that the incident occurred on Konrad-Adenauer-Straße, leading to significant traffic disturbances. Motorists and pedestrians were urged to avoid the affected area.
