“Baltic Nations Condemn Russian Airspace Breach”

Date:

Russian aircraft breached NATO airspace and targeted alliance territory this week, as confirmed by Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. The three countries strongly condemned Russia’s aggressive actions towards Ukraine and urged an immediate reinforcement of NATO’s air defenses along the Russian border.

In a joint statement titled “Ministers of Defence of the Baltic countries on drone incidents,” the Baltic nations denounced recent airspace violations by foreign unmanned aerial vehicles, attributing them to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Fortunately, there were no civilian casualties, and the damage to infrastructure was minimal.

Praising the contributions to NATO’s Air Policing Mission, the defense ministers emphasized the need to enhance air defenses in response to the mounting threat from Moscow. They reiterated their unwavering support for Ukraine’s self-defense rights against Russian aggression.

Calling for an expedited Eastern Sentry mission by NATO, the ministers stressed the importance of bolstering air defenses to counter drones. They urged allied nations to swiftly enhance detection and interception capabilities along Europe’s eastern border to tackle all air threats, including unmanned aerial vehicles.

Maintaining and strengthening the current presence of NATO aircraft and air defense systems in the Baltic states was deemed crucial to counter any potential threats. The statement was issued following alarming remarks from Vladimir Solovyov, a close associate of Putin, advocating for aggressive actions and new weapons, including attacks on the UK. Solovyov’s statements have raised concerns about escalating tensions in the region.
