A man who was a father and husband tragically lost his life after falling through a roof while working on a building for his son’s special event. The man, identified as Dries Soete, had spent the morning with his family before beginning work on the outbuilding behind their new home.
Dries, aged 36, had moved into the property with his wife, Dina Vangheluwe, and their two young sons just six months prior. Dina, 32, shared that they were both excited about the house and had plans to beautify the outbuilding for their son’s upcoming celebration.
The incident occurred in Beerst, Belgium, while Dina was asleep due to her night shifts. Their children were not present at the time of the accident. Dina recounted warning Dries about the roof’s stability before the tragic fall.
Despite efforts by emergency services, Dries could not be revived. This heartbreaking event is the second tragedy for the family, following the loss of their middle son previously. Dina fondly remembered Dries as a devoted father with a generous and humorous personality.
The family and community are mourning the loss of Dries, remembering him for his hard work and loving nature.
