The evening prior to John Price’s tragic death, he eerily foretold his demise in a conversation with coworkers. When the 44-year-old, known as a beloved individual, failed to show up for work, a colleague hurried to his residence and discovered blood traces at the entrance. Price had previously expressed, “If I don’t make it in tomorrow, Katherine Knight is responsible.”
Upon entering the house, law enforcement officers were confronted with a gruesome sight. The interior was saturated with blood, and a human skin “pelt” hung from a meathook in the kitchen. In the kitchen, a pot on the stove contained Price’s head, cooked alongside vegetables. Portions of flesh were arranged on plates on the table, each with a note mentioning Price’s children.
In the living room, alongside Price’s dismembered torso, Katherine Knight lay asleep. After committing the heinous crime, Knight allegedly consumed parts of his flesh before ingesting a significant amount of sleeping pills. Knight, hailing from Australia, was hospitalized and taken into custody. The crime scene images were so disturbing that the judge allowed the jury to be excused if desired.
It was determined that Knight had stabbed Price 37 times. Due to the severity of the offense and Knight’s lack of remorse, Justice Barry O’Keefe imposed a life sentence without the possibility of parole, marking the first instance in Australian history where a woman received such a punishment. He recommended against her release, stating she did not deserve mercy.
During the trial, distressing details about Knight’s past emerged. Her father was a violent alcoholic who sexually abused her mother, and later, Knight herself. Knight, who left school at 15 without basic literacy skills, began a tumultuous relationship with David Kellett, characterized by abuse and violence.
Knight’s history of abusive behavior continued, culminating in the tragic events involving John Price. Former detective Luke Taylor emphasized the numerous warning signs that went unheeded, attributing Knight’s actions to her deep-seated hatred towards men resulting from her traumatic childhood experiences.
Taylor highlighted Knight’s history of enduring severe sexual abuse from a young age, leading to her troubled relationships with men in adulthood. This cycle of abuse, stemming from her traumatic past, manifested in Knight’s violent actions throughout her life.
