Attendees of a popular coastal air show have been cautioned against feeding seagulls to prevent the risk of bird strikes.
The annual event, the Blackpool Air Show, is expecting a large crowd with over 350,000 people attending last year.
Scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, the show will showcase an array of military and civilian aircraft performing above the iconic seafront.
However, visitors have been advised of the potential danger posed by leaving food behind or feeding seagulls, which could create hazards for aircraft, particularly during low-level flying displays.
As a precaution, attendees are urged to properly dispose of any trash or uneaten food and refrain from feeding the birds.
Jim Johnson, the operations, safety, and compliance manager at Blackpool Airport, expressed enthusiasm for the event while emphasizing the importance of not attracting gulls by leaving food residues.
He highlighted the significance of limiting food availability to reduce the number of gulls near the airport, thereby lowering the risk of bird strikes during the air displays.
Gratitude was extended for everyone’s cooperation in ensuring a safe environment for pilots and spectators at the Blackpool Air Show, featuring highlights such as RAF Typhoons, a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and the Red Devils.
The air show, scheduled for August 8 to August 9, promises a display of exceptional military and civilian aircraft flying over the iconic seafront, showcasing the best of British aviation and talented pilots according to its official website.
