“Brave Teens Attempt to Extinguish Vape Shop Fire Before Explosion”

Date:

A man recounts his experience attempting to extinguish a fire at a vape shop before a significant explosion occurred.

Video footage depicts individuals courageously entering the building near Central Station in Glasgow to combat the fire before firefighters intervened. Firefighters are still actively working to control the fire that started the previous night.

Callum Robertson and Aydin Boyd, both 18 years old, observed the fire shortly after it began around 3:45 pm and made efforts to extinguish it. Callum, a mechanic, mentioned that they had gone to grab pizza in the city center when they noticed the blaze.

“We descended the stairs from the station and witnessed a person rushing out of the shop, alerting us to the fire,” he shared with the Daily Record. “I peeked inside and saw the flames. I hurried across the street to a store, but they lacked a fire extinguisher.

“I then entered Subway, where they provided me with a foam extinguisher, but I struggled to release the pin. I obtained another one from SexyCoffee, but it was a water extinguisher, and I refrained from using it as I suspected an electrical fire.

“An individual took the extinguisher from me, entered the shop, attempted to use it, but as the flames intensified, we advised him to vacate the premises. Shortly after, a massive explosion occurred. We were about a block away, approximately 50 yards distant.”

Callum, hailing from Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, expressed that he and Aydin, both mechanics, were filled with adrenaline during the unfolding events. He added, “I was concerned about the residents above the shop since there are apartments there.

“Initially, when we arrived, the fire was minor and could have been controlled with a fire extinguisher, but by the time I acquired one, it had escalated significantly.”

Callum mentioned that he and his friend remained in the vicinity as firefighters battled the fire. “Around 4 pm, the smoke began to turn white, prompting my friend and me to depart. We rented CityBikes, cycled away, but returned an hour later to find the fire reignited,” he added.

Adjacent Victorian buildings near the train station later caught fire. Network Rail confirmed no damage to the station itself has been detected.

Authorities have advised people to avoid the area as large crowds gathered to witness the blaze yesterday. Central Station, Scotland’s busiest, will remain closed today and tomorrow with train services suspended.
