“Britain Braces for Rare May Snowstorm”

Date:

Britain is preparing for a 36-hour snowfall event this week, with temperatures dropping to 0C despite it being May and recent warmer weather. According to weather forecasting service WXCharts, wintry conditions are expected to hit on Tuesday, bringing snow and freezing temperatures. The snow is expected to start at noon on Tuesday and continue until midnight on Thursday. The forecast indicates that the snow will begin in the Grampians and then move into west and east Scotland by evening.

By midnight, areas like the West Coast of Scotland and northern England could see significant snowfall. Wednesday morning is predicted to bring snow to central Scotland, South-east Scotland, north England, and north Wales. The rest of Wednesday is expected to have scattered showers in central and north Scotland, as well as North-west England, with heavy rain showers anticipated on Wednesday afternoon.

Temperatures are also set to decrease significantly, with central Scotland possibly experiencing temperatures as low as 0C. The North of England, the Midlands, the South of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland are expected to have varying temperature ranges. The Met Office forecasts rain moving southeastwards on Tuesday, followed by sunshine and showers on Wednesday and Thursday, with cooler temperatures and overnight frosts.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, the Met Office predicts continuing cloud and rain moving southwards, clearing the UK by evening, with sunny spells elsewhere and below-average temperatures. From May 15 to 24, changeable and unsettled conditions are expected, with periods of rain or showers for many places. Temperatures are likely to be close to normal, with winds coming from a northwesterly direction. Towards the end of May, more settled weather is expected, with longer spells of fine and dry conditions.

As May ends and June begins, the Met Office suggests that patterns favoring settled weather are more likely towards the end of May, with occasional rain and showers but also extended periods of dry weather. Temperatures are expected to recover close to average and may become warm at times. In June, mixed conditions are anticipated, with spells of rain and showers, along with some dry weather periods.
