An airline has issued an update on its rescue operations amid the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East.
Following the outbreak of the conflict, a large number of British citizens found themselves stranded in the area. However, British Airways has now revealed that it will halt its daily rescue flights from Muscat due to a decrease in demand after 11 days.
The airline further stated that flights to other parts of the region will remain suspended until later this month due to the ongoing uncertainties and airspace instability in the Middle East.
British Airways mentioned, “We have canceled all flights to and from Amman, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, and Tel Aviv until later this month, and to and from Abu Dhabi until later this year. We are constantly monitoring the situation and providing various options to our customers.
“Limited seats are available on our repatriation flights from Muscat to London Heathrow on March 11 and 12 for customers with existing bookings. Following these dates, flights will be temporarily paused due to reduced demand but will be regularly reassessed.”
The Foreign Office reported yesterday that over 37,000 stranded individuals have been brought back. The statement reads, “More than 37,000 British nationals have returned to the UK since March 1. Three charter flights have departed from Oman and landed in the UK, with the third one arriving this morning.
“A flight has been chartered out of Dubai by the UK government which, pending the situation on the ground, is scheduled to depart later today. On Sunday, 30 flights left from various locations in the region carrying over 7,000 British nationals – the largest influx of Britons returning to the UK in a single day since the crisis began.
“British nationals are advised to adhere to FCDO Travel Advice and local directives as the situation remains volatile and could escalate.”
Sir Keir Starmer emphasized the UK’s commitment to ensuring the safety of British citizens, acknowledging the concerns of those worried about their loved ones.
He stated, “Staff are providing on-ground support to those in need, government-sponsored flights are facilitating repatriation, and our diligent armed forces are deployed across the region to safeguard our allies and interests.”
