“British Nationals in Dubai Face Chaos Amid Missile Attacks”

Date:

British tourists and expatriates in Dubai are facing uncertainty and disruption after a series of missile attacks swept through the region today. Israel and the US coordinated an assault on Iranian targets this morning, prompting retaliatory strikes from Iran on US and Israeli military installations across the Middle East, including in tourist destinations like the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

The escalating political tensions have left British nationals in Dubai and travelers in a state of concern. Approximately 240,000 British citizens reside in Dubai, prompting warnings from authorities to seek shelter amidst the chaos. Flights at Dubai International Airport have been suspended, causing a travel nightmare for tourists.

Reports from Iranian state media indicated attacks on Dubai, among other locations, with the UAE Ministry of Defence intercepting multiple Iranian missiles and drones. Despite efforts to control the situation, a fire broke out at the renowned Fairmont Hotel in Dubai, caused by debris from the attacks.

In a tragic incident, one person was reported dead in Abu Dhabi due to falling debris. The UAE’s defence ministry confirmed the efficiency of their air defenses but acknowledged the loss of life and property damage. The disruption in air travel has affected thousands of British tourists who frequent Dubai’s airports daily.

Both Dubai Airports and Emirates Airlines announced the suspension of operations until further notice, urging passengers to stay updated on flight statuses. The UK government issued warnings to British nationals in Dubai, advising them to remain indoors, avoid travel, and follow local authorities’ instructions due to the heightened regional tensions and potential terrorist threats.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) emphasized the importance of staying informed through local media, ensuring travel documents are current, and seeking shelter as advised. They highlighted the risk of terrorist attacks globally, particularly in the United Arab Emirates, urging British citizens to remain cautious given the escalating tensions in the region.
