“British Police Pilot Dodges Kremlin Drones at Military Base”

Date:

A British police helicopter pilot faced a terrifying situation during a late-night mission to track down drones believed to be operated by the Kremlin. The pilot reportedly had to make a sudden dive at a military base in the Suffolk countryside to evade the suspected Russian-controlled drones that he was tasked to monitor. These drones were allegedly launched from a shadow fleet tanker in Hull.

The helicopter pilot was instructed to investigate drone sightings above RAF Lakenheath in November 2024, which is one of the bases storing American nuclear weapons. Following these incidents, several high-level Cobra meetings were convened to address the security breaches that also occurred at RAF Fairford, RAF Mildenhall, and RAF Feltwell.

According to a source cited by The Times, the pilot was genuinely concerned about a potential fatal crash, expressing fears that the drones could bring down the helicopter. During the operation, the National Police Air Service pilot observed “red flashing lights” on the drones, indicating their presence near Lakenheath airfield.

Intelligence analysts have accused Vladimir Putin of deploying spy drones over Royal Air Force bases and strategic locations housing Britain’s nuclear arsenal. The International Institute for Strategic Studies revealed that drones conducted surveillance over sensitive US military sites in the UK for 15 months as part of a coordinated operation.

The report highlighted the presence of the Russian-crewed cargo vessel HAV Dolphin near Hull during some of the drone incursions, suggesting a coordinated effort. It emphasized Russia’s ability to breach NATO airspace without triggering a collective response, showcasing a significant failure in allied air defense.

The report also pointed out that Russia exploited Europe’s air defense systems’ limitations, highlighting a strategic advantage in penetrating airspace undetected. Despite the sophisticated nature of the drones involved, attribution to specific entities remains uncertain.

The UK Ministry of Defence affirmed its commitment to safeguarding military installations and personnel, collaborating with international partners to enhance security measures. Through the Armed Forces Bill, the UK is bolstering its counterdrone capabilities to address evolving threats to defense facilities.
