A man and his daughter have been sentenced to prison for throwing, beating, and stabbing the daughter’s lover after an incident involving a debt owed by the victim. The assault occurred at a residence in the east end of Glasgow, where the victim was pushed out of a first-floor window, physically attacked, and ultimately rescued by a woman present at the scene who sought help.
Both John McGinley, aged 58, and Stacey McGinley, aged 39, confessed to the crimes in Glasgow’s High Court. John was handed a seven-and-a-half-year prison term, while his daughter received a six-and-a-half-year sentence. The presiding judge remarked on the severity of their actions, suggesting they could have faced more serious charges.
During the incident on February 15, 2025, tensions escalated between Stacey and the victim over an alleged debt of over £600. Stacey physically assaulted the victim, leading to him being pushed out of a window by John, causing injuries that required medical attention.
Over the course of several hours, the victim endured multiple assaults, including being stripped of his clothes and suffering various physical injuries. The pair also attempted to extort money from him, leading to a prolonged and violent ordeal for the victim until help arrived.
Following the incident, firearms officers intervened and found the victim in distress with significant injuries. He was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment, where it was revealed that he had sustained severe injuries, necessitating an extended period of medical care and rehabilitation.
Both John and Stacey McGinley were charged with attempted murder and assault, with the daughter also facing additional charges of permanent disfigurement and endangering the victim’s life. They were also prohibited from any contact with the victim indefinitely.
