In the summer of 2023, a group of eight young men perpetrated a heinous assault on a young woman, leaving a dark stain on one of Spain’s popular holiday destinations. The attackers, who were not all acquainted with each other and hailed from different backgrounds, committed a brutal gang rape against an 18-year-old at the BH Mallorca Resort in Magaluf. The level of cruelty exhibited in their actions aimed to degrade and violate the victim, with even strangers at the hotel being encouraged to partake in the horror unfolding in the hotel room.
Reports indicate that three of the perpetrators had encountered the teenager earlier in the evening while reveling in Magaluf’s vibrant atmosphere. The assault took place at dawn as partygoers returned from the bustling Magaluf strip, and the details of the 30-minute ordeal endured by the young woman are deeply disturbing. The attackers, including Khalil Abderrahmen Mejbri and Romain Charles Michel Galatioto from France, subjected the victim to unspeakable acts, causing her to lose consciousness.
Further degrading the victim, some of the assailants spat at her, whipped her, and verbally abused her while others stood by and chanted words of encouragement. The group, described as “libidinous,” showed no remorse as they taunted and insulted the victim during the attack. Shockingly, even after the assault, one of the perpetrators callously solicited strangers in the hotel corridor for further exploitation of the survivor.
Following the incident, all eight men aged between 18 and 26, refused to cooperate with authorities, maintaining their silence during police interrogations and court proceedings. However, incriminating videos shared via Snapchat by some of the attackers played a crucial role in their arrest and subsequent prosecution.
The plea agreement signed by the perpetrators outlined their despicable actions during the assault, emphasizing their intent to humiliate and violate the victim. The assault was halted when a hotel security guard discovered the victim in distress in the lobby, leading to swift police intervention. The survivor received immediate medical and psychological support to address the physical and emotional trauma inflicted upon her.
Legal consequences ensued, with Mejbri and Wisniewski receiving nine-year prison sentences for sexual assault. Wengler, Tchatchou, and Galatioto admitted to the same offense and were handed 11-year sentences. Sahan, who confessed to a lesser charge, received a four-year sentence. Additionally, all eight offenders, including those involved in filming the assault, were sentenced to prison and ordered to compensate the survivor.
Despite some of the perpetrators being released on bail, others remain incarcerated pending further legal proceedings.
