“Center Parcs: High Prices Drive Families to European Escapes”

Date:

Center Parcs is well-known for its large pools, family-friendly activities, and cozy lodges. However, it is also infamous for its high prices, especially during school holidays.

Despite the steep costs, the five Center Parcs in the UK and one in Ireland continue to attract families. For budget-conscious travelers, exploring a European Center Parcs could be a viable option.

While operated by a different company, there are 28 Center Parcs holiday parks scattered across Europe, situated in various picturesque locations such as the Belgian and Dutch coasts, Germany’s forests, and close to Disneyland Paris.

Comparing prices for a short break during the May half-term week for a family of four, the UK’s Whinfell Forest offered a two-bedroom Woodland Lodge for £1,349. On the other hand, a similar stay in France at Center Parcs Les Bois-Francs in a Premium Cottage cost around £380, excluding travel expenses.

For a longer break during the six-week summer holidays, a seven-night stay in Woburn Forest, UK, was priced at £2,378. Alternatively, a stay at Le Lac d’Ailette in France for the same duration cost about £1,634, including travel costs.

While a European Center Parcs vacation may be cheaper based on initial calculations, additional expenses like travel and passports should be considered. The convenience of UK parks, with shorter travel times, may still be preferable for families with limited time and annual leave.

Food costs in French supermarkets may be higher than in the UK, but dining out could be more affordable due to prix fixe menus. For Center Parcs enthusiasts open to a change and willing to endure longer travel times, exploring parks on the continent could offer a refreshing holiday experience.
