Two individuals have been taken into custody on suspicion of murder in connection with the passing of a 12-year-old boy.

Essex Police reported that law enforcement responded to an incident on Ashwells Road in Pilgrims Hatch, Brentwood, at 5:40 pm on Sunday after receiving information about a child being struck by a vehicle. The 12-year-old boy sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A 15-year-old boy and a 43-year-old man, both residents of the Pilgrims Hatch area, have been apprehended on suspicion of murder and are currently in police custody.

Due to ongoing investigations, Ashwells Road is anticipated to remain closed for an extended period. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes. Several police vehicles were observed at the scene on Monday, according to reports from Essex Live.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe remarked, “Our primary concern is for the family of the boy who tragically lost his life in this incident. This investigation is intricate and will require time to unravel due to its complex nature.”

“We are diligently piecing together the circumstances surrounding this event, and we appreciate those who have already provided their testimonies,” she added.

Metcalfe urged residents who have not been interviewed yet to review any CCTV footage from 8 am on Sunday, June 7, until 7 pm and contact the authorities via the dedicated public portal established for this case.

While the investigation is still in its early stages, authorities believe this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community.

Specialist officers are supporting the boy’s family, as stated by the police. Chief Inspector Terry Fisher, Brentwood district commander, acknowledged the profound impact this incident is likely to have on the community.

Fisher emphasized, “Losing a child is a parent’s worst nightmare, and I appeal for complete respect of the family’s privacy during this challenging time, both in person and online.”

Individuals with relevant information are urged to reach out to Essex Police through the dedicated public portal provided.
