Several stores, including Marks and Spencer, Waitrose, and McDonald’s, had to shut down prematurely to safeguard patrons from the unruly crowds. This occurrence followed a similar incident over the weekend where a group looted the same Marks and Spencer location, resulting in clashes with authorities and subsequent arrests made by the Metropolitan Police.
An employee at the affected Marks and Spencer store disclosed that they had received prior warnings from the police and were prepared after the previous weekend’s chaos. The staff decided to keep the store closed for the day and secure some individuals indoors as the disturbances unfolded outside. The employee recounted the tense atmosphere, mentioning the precautionary measures taken to ensure the safety of customers, including escorting them out one by one under police and security supervision.
